New Section 3B Formed for 2017. 8 Teams Fighting for 4 MBA Tourney Slots.

MBA Section 3B met as follow up to MBA Board directive about changes to 2017 Section structure.  Due in part to the fewer number of MBA Class B teams and georgraphy, MBA will be changing to 4 Sections with 4 teams from each qualifying for the State Tournament.  The former Section 3B, consisting of 5 River Valley League teams: Chanhassen Redbirds, Chaska Cubs, Prior Lake Jays, Shakopee Indians and Victoria Vics, will be combined with the remnants of the Cannon Valley League Burnsville Bobcats, Eagan Bandits and Savage Outlaws to form an 8 team Section for the 2017 season.  While MBA reserves the right to add teams in the future and have been working on a "formula" to classify teams in the B or C classes long term, the new Section 3B commenced planning for 2017.

RVL East reps met to implement 2017 before MBA changes so the new Section 3B needed in incorporate a schedule and structure to accomodate the 8 team alignment.  Teams assembled 12/5 and have agreed to a home/home 14 game regular season to seed for a best of 5 format for playoffs.  The 4 series winners will advance to MBA State Class B Tournament play with seeds carrying from regular season on a 4-4 vote with Chaska, Prior Lake, Burnsville and Savage supporting an 8 team double elimination bracket but failing to sway a deciding vote to implement.  The MBA will seed the Tournamant following the previous format already in place with a single elimination 16 team 1st round and double elimination Final 8.

The new Section 3B will be presided over by Hall Of Fame member John Breimhorst of Jordan who was the long time Commissioner of Section 3B continuing on following the Jordan Brewers transition to MBA Class C.  The Miesville Mudhens are the defending Champions of MBA Class B having defeated Moorhead Brewers.  Moorhead defeated both Chaska and Shakopee in the losers bracket with the RVL East reps taking 4th and 3rd respectively while the Cannon Valley reps were dropped in Section playoffs and not represented in 2016 Class B State Tournament play.
